TBI to TPI conversion. Installing my wiring harness need help please. Pics inside.

Ok, so I am in the process of converting my 1990 camaro from TBI to TPI. I have the TPI parts installed and now im installing the wiring harness. It seems very intimidating so thats why I am asking for help.

To start off, the setup is from an 89 Trans AM (no 9th injector). I thought the harness i have was also from an 89 but it has a plug for the cold start injector so it cant be. So, as long as I am using a computer and PROM from an 89 the harness will work right, the service # on the computer ends in 165 so it will work? Im also getting a PROM with VATS delete for an 89 Trans AM

I took some pictures of some plugs that i dont know where they go. I really need to get my car running for the nice weather, so I am asking that people will click this link and check out these pictures click the picture to read the description. I really apprectiate the help, thanks everyone.

Re: TBI to TPI conversion. Installing my wiring harness need help please. Pics inside

i dont have a photobuckett account so im gonna just tell you here.

pic1-pretty sure this one goes to a low pressure cutoff switch for the ac near the drier
pic2-think this one hooks to the heater/ac box somewhere
pic3-looks like the water temp sensor that is threaded into the base intake manifold on the front above the water pump
pic4-on my car (88 camaro rs) there are two plugins going to the wiper motor, one on the top with like 7 wires and one on the bottom with 3 so i think thats what that one is for
pic5-just a vacuum port. if u dont have anything to hook to it just plug it
pic6-oil pressure sending unit, the one by the distributor
pic7-intake air temp sensor(make sure you plug it in b4 you bolt the plenum on its a bit$% to do afterwards)
pic8-water temp sensor, and cold start injector switch
pic9-yes it is
pic10-the single wire one is for the 02 sensor. dont know bout the other
pic11-yes plugs in by the oil filter housing, also the low oil pressure cutoff switch
pic12- i believe thats what hooks into the cold start switch/sensor
pic13- no idea
pic14-thats supposed to cut off your p/s at high speeds. i dont have this hooked up on my car. didnt cause any issues to date

hope this helps. and if i made any mistakes im sorry. but im 90% sure i got them right.

When I work on a TPI harness, I have the wiring diagram from the donor vehicle to use as a reference. I then mark / label the wires using the wire color codes. The harness below is a Vette 7727 harness. Chevy Thunder http://chevythunder.com/ is a good place to get wiring information.

thank you guys this really helps me out, if anyone knows anything else about those plugs please let me know,
do i need the cold start injector switch if im not using the cold start injector?
If I use the PROM from an 89 (VATS delete) will it work as an 89 with no cold start injector?. again thanks for the info guys

The ECM I am using has a service number ending in 165 from an 89 TPI setup with an 89 PROM. I will be able to use it with my wiring harness even though it has plugs for the cold start injector ill just leave them unplugged, right.

Can someone describe or send a picture of the plug that plugs into the sensor under the plenum. And also can someone describe or send me a picture of plugs that plug into those sensors in front of the manifold?

Also there is a threaded hole between the 3rd and 5th injector on the drivers side of the manifold, what is it for?

There is suppose to be a nipple that threads in there so that you can hook up a vacuum hose that goes to a pcv valve on the driver side valve cover.

My opinions:

pic1-pretty sure this one goes to a low pressure cutoff switch for the ac near the drier (correct)
pic2-think this one hooks to the heater/ac box somewhere(ac clutch on the top of the ac compressor.)
pic3-looks like the water temp sensor that is threaded into the base intake manifold on the front above the water pump ( I think that goes to the smog pump control valve of the evap canister not sure depends on the year of the harness which i believe is an 86 or 87 based off of pic number six only those years had oil pressure sensor next to distributer.)
pic4-on my car (88 camaro rs) there are two plugins going to the wiper motor, one on the top with like 7 wires and one on the bottom with 3 so i think thats what that one is for(wipers if it's located next to firewall TPS if its in front of the motor hard to tell with those pics)
pic5-just a vacuum port. if u dont have anything to hook to it just plug it (left one goes to the fuel pressure regulator make sure it's plugged in)

pic6-oil pressure sending unit, the one by the distributor(correct which makes me think it's 86 87 harness)
pic7-intake air temp sensor(make sure you plug it in b4 you bolt the plenum on its a bit$% to do afterwards)
pic8-water temp sensor, and cold start injector switch
pic9-yes it is (9th injector)
pic10-the single wire one is for the 02 sensor. dont know bout the other(Can be two things:On left EGR Sensor DK GRN wire,on right EGR solenoid GRY, PNK/BLK wires or it's the O2BLK/PPL with the connector that conects the two parts of the engine harness that come in 87 86 cars.)
pic11-yes plugs in by the oil filter housing, also the low oil pressure cutoff switch(yes but the 87 86 are different then 89 and it looks like an 87 again!)
pic12- i believe thats what hooks into the cold start switch/sensor(Could be right 9th injector plug colors are Tan, PPL/WHT cold start colors are PPL and TAN)
pic13- no idea( think that is the second part of the plug that connects to harness together. don't remember off the top of my head what it is that those to wire do in an 87 harness.)
pic14-thats supposed to cut off your p/s at high speeds. i dont have this hooked up on my car. didnt cause any issues to date (thats going to have to stay unplugged if you dont' see the wire for it.)

Re: TBI to TPI conversion. Installing my wiring harness need help please. Pics inside

alright. Im getting close to the end now just a couple more questions. My harness has the plug for the oil pressure sending unit by the distribuor my car does not have that one it has the newer one. What do I do? Do I chnage the oil pressure sending unit to an older one? If I do that, will the ECM and 89 PROM work? Also, the low oil pressure cutoff switch is different than the one I have, so does this need to be plugged in? Would I be able to just cut the plugs off my old harness and use them?

Pic 1 is the oil pressure sending unit plug.

Does anyone have any other opinions on this pic
