AFPR "How To"

I need to change my FPR and I was hoping to get a few pointers from those of you who have knowledge of doing so.

I purchased a used AFPR a while ago on here (I forget the name brand) but it has a round metal disc (slightly larger than a quarter) that came with it. I just wanted to make sure of where it should go since I'm thinking it goes in the housing so the adjustment screw can press against it which then 'pushes' against the spring/diaphram (??)
Should the rubber diaphram easily touch the surface of the housing(?) since it seems this one doesn't want to.

Also, can the FPR be swapped out without removing the plenum?
It looks like it 'may' but was just looking for some insight from someone before I waste my time trying it this way.

Due to recent shoulder surgery, I don't want to do any more streching than necessary.

Okay, can anyone who has changed a FPR before confirm that it can be done without removing the plenum?
I guess it's wishfull thinking since it does look possible......maybe(?)

short and sweet..yes it can be done without removing the upper plenum....is it easy NO lol... depends on which afpr you are using that you will have to use a allen key or a small coin and adjust it.

Thank you very much. I thought it looked to be possible, but figured I'd ask instead of wasting my time and/or dropping little screws/etc just to find out it isn't possible

The AFPR I have actually has a hex headed screw, so a small wrench or socket should do the trick when it comes to adjustment.

I do realize it won't be simple, but if it saves me from ruining gaskets/etc then I am going to try that route first.

well, to be honest with you, you might be able to do it with the plenum on but WHY would you want to go through that much trouble on such a simple swap??? All you have to do is remove 8 bolts that hold the plenum to the runners and lift up the plenum. You don't have to remove the tb or the throttle bracket. It takes me about 10mins to remove the plenum and adjust my homemade AFPR. You would end up doing alot more work with the plenum still attached...

WHY?
Well, for one, if you don't HAVE to remove something then in my head that makes things a little easier.
Also, if you don't HAVE to buy a new set of runner gaskets, then that also makes it easier.
Also, (like already mentioned in my very first post) I just recently had MAJOR shoulder surgery which involved a steel plate and 10 screws being added to my shoulder. I was simply trying to avoid being stretched out for any longer tha I had to. And if you hadn't worked for 2 months and had no income, then you would also understand why a person didn't want to be spending money on runner gaskets.

Don't worry though, I ended up doing this job about a week ago and had to pull the plenum up out of the way.
Too bad after all that, the person I bought the AFPR from had the wrong screw in the unit (never bothered to mention that when selling it to me) and it not only hit the back corner of the plenum, but also even after pulling the screw to trim it to fit, it didn't bite the threads right to even be adjustable
Good thing it holds about 45 psi in it's "relaxed" position without having to crank the screw, which does nothing.

I hope I covered everything.

I'm glad you got it changed without incident, do you know what kind/brand the AFPR is? you might be able to fix the threads if its one of the aluminum ones...

After looking at this, can anyone confirm that very little movement is needed to adjust the pressure? Seems there isn't much screw/travel in that one above. When I got the one I did (used) it had a 1" long screw sticking out of it. I didn't know any better to know it wasn't even close to the correct one.

I can't remember exactly how "sensitive" the afpr is to adjust. Last time I adjusted my fuel pressure I believe it was about a turn or two for about 3-5psi. Maybe someone else can confirm that. It would also depend on the thread size and spacing as to how sensitive it is...
