Nearly 500hp?

http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ472821909

What would one have to do to get that type of hp with the car/drivetrain above?

Re: Nearly 500hp?

I would say show me the dyno sheet or else raise the flag. Car looks stock and no special car that i know of came with the vette L98, not that its more special anyway except aluminum heads which are easier to mod.

Considering the they list non existent suspension parts as being replaced on that car I would't put much value in any claims of the seller.

300 hp fogger!

Engine is stock, stock runners, stock exhaust manifolds.

I like the Hood prop too, that shows attention to detail.

Must be the chrome alternator freeing up all the HP, thats the only 'mod' I see.

But it has new torsion bars, struts and new shocks all around, plus it's track rated for 250mph!

Re: Nearly 500hp?

473HP through stock small tube runners? Unless there's a Paxton S trim blower at the other end of that stock air intake tube, I would say there's no possible way. Im thinking that if this guy ever got hold of even a 400hp 3rd gen, he'd be crapping his pants.

Re: Nearly 500hp?

There is a guy in Canada who just posted real dyno results of 480+ HP from a 383 with nearly stock Vortec heads. He's running a 4barrel and RPM airgap but I'm thinking that a prepped HSR with the right tune could do about the same. With heads that sell for $100s rather than $1000s and a mild cam.

Actually, I too plan to replace my torsion bars and upper ball joints. Just as soon as I find them.

True but air gap is light years ahead of what appears to be stock tpi

In that one article on tpi intake shootout, it took a very large cammed 385 with good heads to make 460 thru a stock tpi. I doubt stock castings with "port and polish" will do similar numbers

Oh yes. I wasn't even suggesting that the motor in that add is anything close to what the seller claims. Nice looking 89 GTA for sure, but not a 500hp car. I was simply suggesting one path to 500hp using relatively inexpensive parts.

I was looking through my old 1997-98 TPIS catalog this weekend and ran accross the dyno sheet from their tests with the ZZX cam. Running the ZZX cam, they made 408hp @5,950rpm from a 350 through stock runners with ported factory base, ported aluminum L98 heads, ported plenum and 48mm TB with airfoil. I think it said they used 1 3/4" primary headers, but I don't recall for sure. Hard to say what was done to the heads. That's probably about as far as you could ever take an N/A 350 through stock runners and base without NOS.

The mini ram made 465hp from the same motor.

Re: Nearly 500hp?

Last year on E-Bay there was an original Corvette Challenge TRACO engine - 464hp and all-stock appearing. Stock runners, crappy Vette manifolds and all. It was $6,800 for the engine and the calibrated computer.

That said, with all the work I have in mine I'm lucky to maybe put 300 to the wheels. I'll know for sure as soon as I get it dyno'd

Re: Nearly 500hp?

I think that what TRACO and TPIS are not telling us when they post these crazy power numbers is all of the hours of tweaking and special tricks done to these motors to squeeze every last bit of power out of them. A skilled person with a flow bench and porting kit can work magic. Class rules require the use of factory heads, intake and/or exhaust manifolds. They don't restrict many of the internal mods that can increase power.

Maybe the engine in that car is the product of some sort of engine guru magic, but it doesn't excuse the misinformation in the add. And it would be odd for someone who's invested the kind of money that an engine like that would cost to not know what suspension components his car does and doesn't have. Plus, what is the flow limit of that stock air intake tube and filter housing? Can it support any more than 300hp?

And as I look closely at the enlarged view of the engine bay, I have a hard time believing that engine's ever even been out of that car. Look at all of the old dirt and oxidization.

Anyone get a response from this guy? Apparently the car is one of 50 in existence lol

And for entertainment purposes

Possibly related to this guy? Importing L98's from Japan seems like a bit of a stretch!?!
