Cam Upgrade Recommendation
Finally took the IROC out this summer after a long spell in the garage. Found that the intake is leaving lakes of oil on the floor. Can't think of a better excuse to put in a new cam since I have everything apart. Looking for some reccomendations. Been researching for the past two weeks and can't make up my mind.
1985 305 TPI, MAF, 3.42 rear gears, 700r4, stock heads & ECM
Present upgrades:
SLP headers & exhaust
AFR
Davis Unified Ignition HEI
2000 stall converter
Not looking to make a monster. Just some more power & torque. Maybe a little lumpy idle too. I'm all too aware of the TPI limitations over 4200 RPM's or so. No need to worry about emissions. I would really like to install a retro fit roller cam, but I see these kits have gotten a little pricey. It's all apart. I'd really hate to keep the flat tappet. If that's what I'm gonna have to do due to $$ I'm willing (reluctantly) to compromise.

Re: Cam Upgrade Recommendation
i believe all TPI's are hydraulic roller cams.
and i dont mind my Crane 2032 cam, although i was kinda hoping for something with a bit larger lobe to make the nice big cammed out noise. the only reason i didn't go for a comp cams is because i would have needed work on my brand new heads because the comp cam had too high of lift, the 2032 cam was a good plug and play option for me.

Re: Cam Upgrade Recommendation
Ya, ditch the "lumpity" sound idea, by the time the cam get's going making you power, your TPI will be choking you.
Worse mileage, poor drive ability...etc.
Also, your '85 will be be flat tappet, unless converted.
