New engine time...

Well, when you hear rods knocking and bearings squealing, its time for a new engine. I barely got home and the thing redlined twice!! To add to it, I got stuck behind a funeral line so driving home was nerve wrecking!! Anyway, a friend of mine can get me an engine at his cost. A DCN7 to replace my 350 TPI. But who makes these? I heard that they were ATK/Spartans engines. Anybody have any knowledge or experiences on these?

Re: New engine time...

As an EX-parts guy I ran into numerous issues with the "rebuilt" engines available from many companys. Cheap pistons, helicoils in places I'd never want them to be, pistons way too far in the hole. The part I'd be worried about with this specific engine is it having 193 heads (which are way more common) instead of 083's. They don't always specify head casting numbers though Napa's site shows the DCN7 with 083 or 217. Which camshaft is in this thing too. Not that they're all bad and I've never dealt with the ATK company, just some extra info. Personally I'd rather rebuild it myself, but I like knowing what's in my engine.

Thanks for the heads up. I'd rebuild mine, but I thought I would opt for a reman engine. I just had the rear completely rebuilt with 3.27 gears and after the engine, its time to do the tranny ( when finances allow ).

You can get a brand new L31 Vortec for around $2000.It's a good deal for good engine. Not that much trouble to swap in place of yours.

I think it's a great deal for that engine. Drawback is the $400 baseplate that you need to bolt up to the heads making it $2400 for any tpi user. But it is a super solid engine with warranty included

I knew there was a base to adapt, but, didn't know for sure how much they ran.Didn't realize they were that high.
