Maximum Lift with stock rockers 305 TPI

Hello

I have a 1989 Camaro 305 TPI. What maximum lift can the stock rocker handle. My new cam makes a lift of 0.495

Can i use the stock parts (pushrod, rocker, lifter, studs, ...)
The Springs are Manley (MAN-22410-16)

Re: Maximum Lift with stock rockers 305 TPI

If you go above stock lift, or add springs that are stiffer than stock, it's good insurance to have screw in studs, guide plates and hard push rods installed. The factory push rods are crap, and flex as they are.

At the least, drill and pin your factory press in rocker studs with an 1/8" steel pin. I've seen these come out with a factory lift cam. It's not real common, but it happens.

It's kind of expensive, but it's definitely cheaper than valve train failure wiping out your engine.....

Stock rockers have so much variation in production tolerances that some of them can't even handle 0.465" lift. ( 87-up ) The ratio is seldom better than 1.45:1. Get some aftermarket long-slots, preferably full-roller castings, not roller-tip stampings.
