Stock vette heads, springs and lift numbers
My friend and I have basically stock vette heads. We both have bought cams with high lift numbers, not too high but up near .5 on intake and exhaust. I have a set of 1.6 roller rockers and he has a set of 1.5's. We are going to mix the set because if we use the 1.6's on the exhaust the lift is over .55. And using the 1.6's on the intake makes the lift just over .5 on the intake. My question is on the springs. What are the stock springs good for on lift. And if they arent good for just over .5 if we get new springs is the lift only dependant on the spring or a combination on the spring and the spring pocket or seat? So if we have to replace with new springs do we need to have the seats machined to make room so the coils dont bind?
Thanks
James

Are they the L98 heads, or are they ZZ4 heads. The L98 heads have orange colored springs. They're good for about .520 lift. The ZZ4 heads have LT4 HOT cam springs, which are good to about .530 lift. I switched mine to a set of Manley 1.25" race springs, good to .540" lift, because they have better seat pressure. You should be able to get them from Jegs or Summit.

Well I know mine are orange, I remember thinking they were rusty looking but weren't. As fas as my friends I am unsure. I think they are going to be ok then, and if not we will only need to switch to LT4 hot cam springs.
Thanks
