Good upgrades for an L98

What would be some good choices for upgrading an L98? I'm not going to have lots of money, new heads are out of the question at this point.

I'm going to probably put on a totally new exhaust system. 1.75" long tube headers with a 3" Flowmaster cat-back system. I'll also probably get an LT-4 hotcam(should I replace the lifters?)

What else would you recommend?

1. Torque converter
2. Nitto drag radials

Trust me, this will net you more than any other mod and will give a solid foundation for later mods. With this a several "little mods", my Fomrula went from 14.81 to 13.94 in the 1/4! I still have the original stock exhaust back to the muffler (which I just replaced) and the stock airbox. The converter I have is the cheal TCI Street fighter. Around town it drives like stock and foot stalls 1800 rpm.
Just my .02¢ +

What about building up the transmission? 700R4s aren't known for their strength...

That depends on what you have and the miles. A shift kit is pretty cheap and not real hard to do, and will make the tranny holdup better. Unless you're having problems though I wouldn't worry about it. I know my cat-back made a big difference for me. A bunch of people on here can give you by the numbers improvements on what they have. Good Luck and have fun. Later

if your going to put a new cam in it you should put new lifters in.unless you have a roller motor!if you have a 1987 or newer motor you shouldn't need to replace the lifters.

If he's getting the LT4 Hot Cam, then he has to have roller lifters because its a roller cam, I don't think you can use flat tappet lifters on a roller cam. So don't replace your lifters. You will need to, however, replace the valve springs with this cam though. And, since you are pulling the heads to do the cam, you might as well install new valve seals, clean up your valves or get new ones. You can also get some thin head gaskets and pocket port your heads. I just got done doing an LT4 Hot cam swap on my car and the project cost me about $600 when it was all said and done.
