Anyone ever cut the tailshaft of a trans?

If you cut it with a cutoff wheel to adapt it to a 4X4 case will there be any ill effects? I have a 350TH I'd like to hook to an AWD transfer case for my S-10 4X4. I realize the shaft is hardened but
the wheel shouldn't generate to much heat. I know theres an adapter kit but the trans is in perfect shape(and hopefully would be after this mod. What do you guys think?

I've used a cutoff wheel to shorten the output shaft for a 4WD
700-r4 to TH350 conversion. It won't overheat the shaft.

One of the guys on the CamaroZ28 board was snapping T56 output shafts, so he swapped over to the larger diameter Viper shaft, and cut it shorter. No big deal...
