Help I broke the speedometer drive gear retention clip.

Like the topic states, I broke the clip putting the new drive gear on. Now the problem is how do I secure it back on the output shaft? Or, am I domed to buy a new shaft? Or is there another way to secure the drive gear on the shaft?

Since it's on there fairly securely, I'd stick a dowel in the hole and tap the gear back on. Should be fine. Pull the driven gear every once in a while to make sure the drive gear hasn't walked. At the minimum, this would buy you time to find the clip.
