How to replace the TCC/Cruise brake switch?

I have a new switch but see no proper way to remove the old one! I know it screws in but the brake light switch and steering column is in the way. What's the trick?

Are you sure it screws in? Some brackets have a spring-like retainer and the switch can easily be pulled out and the new one pushed in.
