700R4 no gears

I am pretty sure it is either the pump or the converter, because the thing has no line pressure and doesn't go into any gear. I just need an idea on how to check which it is when I drop the tranny. I have a spare of each and also a spare tranny, but I don't want to condemn parts that aren't bad or go back into this tranny for no reason. How do you check a converter. Also this thing popped extremely loud while in neutral being revved, then I lost everything.

Found the problem, stupid mistake. I put a newer converter on an older tranny, different input shaft splines.
