Trouble with TH700R4 !!!

Since a few days my daily driver's trany makes some trouble.
The Trany is a 30 spline input, late 80's or early 90's TCI Streetfighter 700R4 with a saturday night converter. I purchased it about 9 years ago for my 2nd gen. z28, later the trany went into a 87' trans am, my daily driver.
I think it has now 70k miles on it.

The problem, when I shifte to 'OD', and the car is standing, I have no gear, it feels the same like in 'N' .
If I shift to 'D', I've got gear. It feels just normal, I can accelerate and trany will shift normal up to 3rd gear, I even get lockup.
When I shift to 'OD' during driving, the trany gets out of gear.
The time I get above 40mph and shift to 'OD', the trany gets into 4th gear, and locks.
It stays in 4th as long as I stay above 35mph.
I didn't try kickdown, cause I don't want to destroy it completly.

I ordered a rebuild kit and installed it today.
I found some wear at the brakeband, and at some cluchepacks.
but the only cluch with heavy wear was the small two disc, up front.

The oil looked normal, and there was only very little dirt on the magnet, pan was cllean, no metal peaces etc.

So I changed the cluches the band and the gaskets, reasembled it, and put new oil in, but the problem is still there.

Did anybody have similar problems, or knows how to fix it, I think maybe a sticking valve, but witch one?

I don't think it's a mechanical problem, everything looked nice.

any help would be great

The overrun clutch assembly is probably gone, you will have to at the lest replace the sprag, and make sure that the inner race is in near perfect condition, if not replace it with a new "complete" HD late design assembly from GM. I carry these if you need one.

I've dis- and reassembled several 700s, and know how things fit together, but I don't know the correct names and functions of all the parts.

Maybe you have a pic or exploded view, so I can imagine what we are talking about.

How much will this HD assembly cost?

thanks a lot so far,

Car: None! =(
Engine: My own two feet.
Transmission: My, uh.. Knees?
I've had the same exact problem for months now, but for the most part that's been the only tranny problem I've had (I just made a post describing something new that just started today, however.). Glad to know I'm not the only one with that issue and that someone has a solution. Thanks folks.

Is the overrun clutch that devise, that ist able to be turned in one direction only?
siting behind the rear planetary?

This morning I drove the car, and found, there is some kind of slipping under medium acceleration in second gear.
Under harder acceleration this hapens in first too.
When this 'slipping' hapens, there is a loud noice, like the is something sticking, or like turning a rustet bolt.

I don't beleve that this is caused by any cluch, shifting the gears, cause all shifts feel nicely firm, like usual.

But if it is like I think, why is there just nothing when I put the shifter in 'OD' position? not even a noice?

Other than this the trany seems to work perfect, firm shifts in all gears. I even noticed the downshifts, while slowing down to a stop.

let me know

Roman

Re: Trouble with TH700R4 !!!

Hi guys, I'm a new third gen camaro fan and proud owner. I have a big problem with the 700R4 trans: I started the car this morning and found out that my REVERSE is locked! I mean the the car runs normally forward, but when I put it in "R" it doesn't move, it seems that the parking lock engages in both "P" and also "R" position of the shifter! I checked the shifter linkage and it is OK. I just took tha car to a mechanic but no one here knows this kind of trans ( I live in Italy). Please can someone help me? I want to drive my Camaro!!
