Gear Shims/Adaptor?
Hello everyone, i did a small search and couldnt really find what i wanted, i know a while back they used to sell like spacer plates to put on your carrier to be able to put a different gear ratio on the carrier, right now i can get one with 2.73's on it(posi) and i can get a set of 3.73's from someone else, what would i need to make them work together without getting a different carrier. now i plan on racing as well but only mid 13's if that so would this be safe? and i would need the link to buy the spacers if possible. thanks in advance guys!

I have the same problem I just got my spacer from DTS cost 66 dollars. It wont work because now the ring gear wont center on the carrier . I would recomend buying a new set of gears for a 2 sieres carrier . Good luck.

When I first started the build on this car 3yrs ago, the first set-up was a mid 13 car and I did like you taking parts from here and there for the low buck rebuild. I do remember I got the spacer needed from some shop in Las Vegas-Summit/Jegs did not have the shims for our rear ends at that time. But I do think it cost me about $65 shipped. Everything worked great on the first rear end that I did myself until the ring gear let go, then it was a downward spiral with these puny rears. The spacer never gave any problems, just shops setting up the rear to factory specs and giving too much deflection. The last rear I another shop set-it up, Iremoved the cover and checked backlash, again-factory specs. So I reshimmmed for a tighter fix and it lasted until I put this Ford 9", currently old rear is residing in another street/strip car with no problems to date.
Dont be afraid to use the spacer, but if your going to buy new gears-opt for the 3 series gear set for a 2 series carrier.

I would not advise using the "special" gears for putting 3 series gears on a 2 series carrier. Not because it doesn't work or because it's technically inferior or anything like that; but rather, because then you're stuck with a 2 series carrier forever, since you can't use those gears on a 3 series carrier. At least with a spacer you have the flexibility to change carriers later on if you need or want to, and just leave the spacer out.
