New trans fine.....speedo now inop...
I spent the better part of last weekend installing a slightly used 700r4 tranny that I got from the junkyard for $80.00. It looked like a fresh rebuild that was behind a 305 with a flattened oil pan. Probably crushed the oil pick up and siezed the engine.
Anyhoo......I get the used tranny installed and it works well. Shifts smooth and quick. The only problem is now the speedo doesn't want to play with the rest of the instruments. Tach is working fine as is all other sets.
The "check engine" light flashes a code 24 so I know that the ECM is not getting the data from the VSS. I installed the VSS from the bad tranny (as I know it worked) and I still get no reading on the speedo. VSS gear is red with no "apple coring" on the wheel.
I double checked the connection and the wiring up to the wiring harness on the firewall. Haven't gotten any further along though.
Any suggestions?
Jim.
