700r4 reverse input drum

Hi,

I want to know if the reverse input housing aka drum is the same for the 700r4, 4L60 and 4L60e.

If not can I use a 4L60e drum in a 1991 700r4?,

The part I'm talking about (not mine!)

Also, wher can I buy a good used or new reverse input drum?

Thanks
Alex

If memory serves,82-86 is one design, 87-92 is the second design. They were again changed for 93.
My book shows the 93 version as being interchangable between the 700r4 and the 4l60e. However, the 93 housing CANNOT be used on the 87-92 models but CAN be used on th 82-84's. Confused? So am I.

Really, this is kind of hard to understand.
How do the differ? I read something about different sizes of the feed holes. Does anyone have any hole sizes?
I checked the hole in the worn drum I have. Its 3/32 in diameter. The hole in the pump shaft is 7/32 in diameter.

Any idea where to get the right drum for my application?

Thanks
Alex

The housing feedhole was downsized to .095 in 87. In 93 it became a large square hole. The only place I know of to buy the drum is gm dealer. $90 or so. The trans has a date code cast into the side . It also has a code stamped in the pass side pan rail flange. This contains the julien date and suffix code so the dealer can sell you the drum you need.

look here they are all interchangable as long as you use the hardware that comes with each assembly.the piston type and clutch thickness as well as the cushion plate have changed over the years so just order a loaded drum any year.the diameter of hole that feeds the drum is the only difference in oil routing that changed.i interchange all the time,no problem.need a drum loaded ?contact us 65.00.
