BDR Stall Converters

Has anyone ran one of BDR's stall converters or heard much about them? I haven't really heard of them. I'm looking for a lockup converter around 3500 stall. I was looking at Hughe's but it's around $600 and BDR is around $400.

With torque converters, the saying "you get what you pay for" means a lot.

Jeg's has a 3200-3500 for $450. How should I go about choosing the right brand? Do you recomend one that won't break the bank?

Re: BDR Stall Converters

Don't have a lockup in mine since it's a th400, but mine is excellent!! He admitted to me that he hadn't made converters for turbo stuff before, but I love what I got and he allows for 2 free restalls(you pay shipping). The one I had before this one was basically not holding the motor as it was stalling at 6800rpm, which is above my peak hp rpm. This BDR one stalls just a little less than I'd like, but I gained an easy 4mph at 1/8-mile from just the converter. My transmission guy had talked to and used BDR before, and him and I will continue to use him.

Re: BDR Stall Converters

The rated stall speed is based off the camshaft grind. Having a stall speed that's too high can hinder performance just like a converter with a stall speed that's too low. The camshaft total (advertised) duration will determine the best stall speed. For a street/strip converter, you want the stall speed about 500 rpm into the powerband. For full race, 1000 rpm into the powerband. Turbo and NOS applications need a stall speed slightly lower because of the extra torque the engines produce.

My racing converter stalls at 6000 rpm on the transbrake. By the time I got the converter in my hands, it was close to $1400 CAD.

There's always going to be a few brands to stay away from but most of the top name brands will provide a good converter. How much it costs depends on what's inside it.

Re: BDR Stall Converters

I talked to the tech guys at Hughe`s, TCI and B&M and they all said I need a 3200-3500 stall for my 292H, 501 lift, 244 duration cam.
