TH350 problems

I just installed a new TH350 that I bought from Autozone. After installing the trans and filling it with fluid, I got no movement. Also, the trans it making a whining noise like a power steering pump. It feels like the trans is getting pretty hot too. Is it possible the trans was bad straight off the pallet.

thats a possibility...but I have a question for you. Why did you buy a tranny from Autozone in the first place?

believe it or not, I did a lot of research and they were pretty competitive with everyone else and they are close to my house. Plus, I have never heard anybody say anything bad about their units.

Were you running a TH350 before, what kind of convertor? is it a new convertor for the TH350 or one laying around from a freind that was supposed to be good? Is tranny full of fluid when you check it on the stick when warm?

Almost sounds like a pump/convertor issue to me. If it was a new convertor you installed did you pour some tranny fluid into the convertor before you installed it? That should'nt make a big difference since it should fill with fluid as soon as motor turned over. How much gap did you have between your flexplate and convertor mounting tabs BEFORE you slide the convertor forward to bolt it together. should've only been 1/8"-3/16" between convertor tabs and flexplate, any more than that and shimming may need to be done since the convertor is not fully engauging the pump.
