Transmission rebuild?

Can anyone tell me if it is easy to rebuild a 700-R4? I bought a rebuild manual for that model, and I am mechanically inclined, just need some reassurance, if it is relatively easy to tackle? Thanks.

The ATSG books will help here, and the video that is out there would be a good start. I carry all the necessary parts to make these last. Let me know if I can be of help?

I wouldn't call it easy, but it's definitely not hard either (if that makes any sense). I'd put it up there with an engine rebuild.

As long as you have a really good rebuild manual and a couple of special tools, you'll be good to go. Just take your time and be patient, and don't be afraid to ask questions. I've only rebuilt one 700R4 so far, and I would definitely do more if/when I have the chance. Good luck.

I'd have to agree with all that as well!

Lots O' patience is needed, as well as an extremely clean work area, no cat hair or dirt should be present for reassembly, and as "pro built" stated books and videos will be your best start.

dont follow what i did and end up taking the trans apart 2 more times because you forgot steel squigly spring that gets wedged inside, 3-4spring clutch springs werent replaced with improved springs .

I'd recommend this, first read and be able to understand the manual, take lots of pictures it will help should you forget how to reassemble anything, oh and label your parts in bags and where they go as you remove them. clean the vb with compressed air not a rag. and try to stick w/ one parts supplier, simplifys things later on or buy everything at once.
