4.11's or 3.75 Better Performance?
Hey i got a quick question...
i am building a 350 that will have a bout 330 Hp and i am buying a Street-Fighter tranny w/ a Stall that has (aprox-1000Rpm) it says over stock. The two Brands are "TCI". My question since i will have a 700R4 an OverDrive Tranny like you all know, will i get the best Peformance out of 4.11's gears? my motor's best Rpm range will be 850-5500 Rpm.
Tell me what you think.
Thanks.

Car: cleanest '86 sport coupe around!!

Axle/Gears: 3.23
with a power band up to 5500rpms, I wouldn't even go higher than 3.42's, 3.73's the absolute highest. Put 4.11's in that sucker with such a short rpm range and you'll be reading a magazine by about the middle of the track because those steep gears will put the engine out of its power band way before the traps.

With that steep 1st gear in the 700R4's, I wouldn't go with 4.10s either. I plan to go with 4.10s in my car in the spring, but with my taller rear tires, it'll make it an effective 3.90 gear (which is the exact gear I want). Cammed LT1, power from 1800-6000 or so, I'll be using a T-56.

with the setup you described i would say a 3.73 posi rear would be right up your alley and even if you add more "power" mods in the future you'll still have enough gear...3.73 gears with a 700r4 od tranny is just about the best compromise between performance and economy.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
What 350? What's its power curve? What RPMs does it make peak torque and peak HP at? A good way to approximate this, is by the cam that's in it.

Hey. I am gonna sneek in a quick Q.
I am gonna have a BIG roller cam that works from 3000-to 7000. With stock overal tire diameter and 4.10s and a T-56. Do you think this set up is allright.
I allready have the 12 bolt and the tranny out of a 94 TA with a SPEC stage 3 clutch. I will have the motor in a week.

Dennis, if you trap at 7000 rpms w/ a 26" tire, then you will be at 132mph.

Thanks for the link. Those theoretical calculators are allways fun and test .
I am really just using this car on the street. My 750 DP falls between the street carb and the race carb. Just where I want to be
