My V6 hydraulic clutch linkage has no adjustment, so I can't get any free play in the pedal. I know this is how they are made, the slave cyl. has a spring inside which keeps the rod pushed against the release fork, thereby keeping the throwout bearing in constant contact with the release fingers.

Has anyone found a way to change this? I don't like the pedal being so high, a "normal" mechanical linkage engages the clutch just off of the floor, and as it wears, the engage point gets higher, telling you it needs adjustment. I suppose the engineers engineered the need for adjustment out, but I don't like the pedal needing to be so high to engage. Also the throwout bearing constantly turning can't be good, but I guess they are made for that usage?

I thought maybe putting a spring on the fork to bring it back would do the trick, has anyone else tried this? I was under the car with it running, and manually pushed the fork back, but when it returned to contact with the fingers, it squealed until the bearing started turning.

Any thoughts?

Not necessary, the hydraulics are self-adjusting. They are carefully designed NOT to preload the throwout bearing.

OK, so the spring pressure inside the slave cylinder is not enough to preload the TO bearing, but it does keep it in constant contact against the release fingers. In fact, the only return mechanism IS the fingers, so they are performing the return function.

If that is engineered in, and is not a wear factor, I can live with that. What I don't like, is the fact that the pedal has to be so high to engage the clutch. It's hard to make smooth shifts when you have to bring your knee almost up to the steering wheel to engage the clutch. Is there a way the lower the working height of the pedal?

Seat is all the way back..........

I'm just wondering if anybody has tried changing the pedal height. I like the feel of the clutch engaging right off the floor. Has anyone tried putting a return spring on the fork?
