TH350 Differences

I am trying to find out if this is correct or not.

I have a TH350 that came out of an 81 firebird that was attached to the original 231 V6. We are looking to hook it up to a V8 but I have been told that the TH350 would be weak due to it being a v6 TH350.

This tranny will bolt up to a v8 with no problem but now concerned if it will hold or not once attached to a V8.

Thanks,
Mike

As long as it's a TH350 and not some other hybrid like a TH325 or TH375 then the internals are the same if it's behind a V6 or a V8 BBC.

A friend of mine was rebuilding his TH350 and he found out it was a 6 cylinder model. It turned out that it had slightly different clutch packs and different sized apply pistons from the V8 version. He talked to a guy at a tranny shop and they confirmed that there are slight differences between the two, but they also said the 6 cylinder version would hold up just fine unless it was put behind an all out race motor. They also said the 6 cylinder trans wouldn't take quite as much power to drive due to the lighter duty clutch packs. That statement could be purely theoretical, but my friend did show me the different internal pieces between the V6 and V8 versions. The V8 one used thinner pistons and more clutch discs. 700r4's have different clutch stackups on V8 models depending on what year it is. My ATSG manual shows the different ones for different years.
