Ultimate Hyd. Clutch Linkage Bargain Style!
Anyone looking to improve their thirdgen T5 hydrualic clutch linkage might be interested in seeing this. The only better setup you could do would be to go with McLeod's ultra-expensive adjustable aluminum master cylinder, braided line, and aluminum slave. The only thing that cost me any decent amount with the setup I threw together was purchasing an aluminum thirdgen replacement slave instead of the cheap plastic one. The master cylinder and braided steel line came off a 93-97 style 6 cylinder f-body, which I got dirt cheap at the wrecking yard. I couldn't get the braided steel 4th gen line to work with a thirdgen plastic slave, but it fit perfect with the aluminum one! Just thought I'd pass this along to anyone else looking to upgrade their thirdgen hydraulic linkage since every part of it is made of cheap plastic. The aluminum slaves are getting harder to find, but I think board member Nelapse can still get them. Btw, I mocked this assembly up on the workbench, filled it with fluid, and bench bled it to make sure there were no leaks anywhere, and it works great!

If you can find that set up you are in good shape. That is a very reliable set up. The slave line looks very long but is quite doable. You only need 13" of line and even then you have quite a bit of play.
The setup I sell is
Aluminum Slave, ss braided removable line, with mcleod fittings.
This goes for $220
plus I do not sell aluminum master cylinders.
If you can find them, then you have yourself a hydraulic system you will never have to worry about again.

ive got the same setup as pat, and the slave from nelapse, great stuff, its nice knowing that things will last.
Its funny, i never knew there was a "shield" for the slave, i guess ill have to get one.

I scored my slave shield off of a V6, T5 equipped thirdgen in the junkyard. It seems like there's a never ending supply of V6 5 speed cars in the yards around here. Although the shield isn't entirely necessary, it probably helps keep the slave cooler when running headers.

I dont think that part has anything to do with cooling, especially for the plastic slaves. I think it is just a stone guard

It however is called a heat shield by GM.

You can get aluminum slave cylinders from Summit. Coniseal makes them, part #CNS-SC126869.

Re: Ultimate Hyd. Clutch Linkage Bargain Style!
Old thread but this might be useful to someone.
I was looking at options for my clutch hydraulic system and wanted to have one of these aluminum slave cylinders on hand. Summit still sells them with essentially the same part number (SC126869) however, estimated time to ship is often listed at about three weeks. I discovered that Wagner sells the same part with the same part number and I could order it through NAPA or any other parts place that deals with Wagner ($64.95 CAD).
OK, So what? Well as a Canadian at the current horrible exchange rate buying it locally saved me $16.00. Also saved another $30.00 on shipping and $20.00 on the customs/brokering etc. You get the idea.
Another bonus was that rather than waiting a month for it I had three hours later!
Like I said, not exactly a rock-your-world post but it might be useful to someone.
