Lockup Woes
OK, my lockup no workie. I put 12V to pin A on the transmission connector, I ran both pin B and pin D to an ON-OFF-ON toggle switch and grounded what would normally be the power. I did this so I can have no lockup, lockup only in 4th, or lockup in 2, 3, and 4 depending on the position of the switch.
So I get everything routed nicely and before I installed the vacuum switch I decided to just test it to make sure the lockup worked. And it didn't.
So the first thing I checked was my connections. I put power and ground directly to battery and still lockup no workie.
Then I eliminated the switch and just directly connected the wires. Still, lockup no workie.
I have attached the wiring diagram that I followed.
What did I do wrong here?
Thanks

Re: Lockup Woes
Car was originally an 86 IROC 305/TPI/700R4. The wiring harness has been completely removed along with the old engine and transmission. This new trans is a later model 700R4, not sure what year but its got the electronic speedo output. It has a 2800rpm stall Dacco TC. This trans is used, and the seller was a good guy from what I can tell, he posts on here and thats how I found it, so I don't think he'd have screwed me on it, but the lockup solenoid being fried or the TCC being fried isn't out of the question although I'm not quite sure how to test those.
As for the original wiring colors, I'm not sure. The trans had a TCI lockup kit installed on it when I got it so I removed it to clean up the wiring a bit and reinstalled it like the diagram in the first post, minus the LED and vacuum switch. On the TCI Kit, pin A is red, pin D is black, and Pin B is green. I gave the red wire a keyed 12V and used the switch to select which one I wanted to ground.
Is there something inside the trans I need to check here? I haven't dropped the pan and done anything inside it at all but I was under the assumption that I didn't have to.
O Damn. I think I just figured it out. Started looking up Dacco convertors on a suspicion that the TC didn't have a lockup clutch... Anything that lists as being in the neighborhood of being a 2800 RPM (either 2400-2800 or 2800-3200) stall has a note at the bottom that tells ya it doesn't have a lockup clutch. [EXPLETIVE DELETED]! I wonder if the seller knew he didn't have a lockup convertor when he installed the TCI kit....
Well at least I know whats up...
Thanks for the response.
