Re: 9 bolt to 10 bolt DISC rears

If your 9-bolt came with the car, it should have the same brakes (PBRs) that the 10-bolt has.

If the 9-bolt has the Saginaw :barf: brakes, you'd be shooting yourself in the shorts to take the PBRs off the 10-bolt and put that other crap in their place.

Re: 9 bolt to 10 bolt DISC rears

the 9 bolt has pbr brakes i just want to ditch the 9 bolt for a 10 bolt and want to keep the same brakes that are on the car.

Re: 9 bolt to 10 bolt DISC rears

Why would u trade a stronger rear end out for a weaker one?

Well then you don't have to change ANYTHING; you can just bolt your calipers onto the other rear. They're the same system.

Re: 9 bolt to 10 bolt DISC rears

because the 9 bolt can only get up to 3.70 gears and i need 4.10's for my setup. Also the only thing nicer about the 9 bolt is the bolt on axles and right now my 3.27 3 series 9 bolt posi is wearing and new ones are 800 dollers. Not worth it in my mind my 13 second car isnt going ot break the 10 bolt and it can be made stronger then the 9 bolt.

the 91-92 z28 rear is bare no backing plates or rotors just axles housing posi and gears.

Re: 9 bolt to 10 bolt DISC rears

Those details DO matter.

Yeah, well then you need the right backing plates. Not much way around that. As long as the 10-bolt has the small 4-bolt (disc) flanges, it'll all just bolt right up.

Re: 9 bolt to 10 bolt DISC rears

yes i agree with sofa those details do matter lol. I thought u just wanted a 10bolt well idk lol. But now i understand and yes u can build em tough i run one in the low 12's on a z28. Dint know 9bolts only allowed 3.73s then again ive never done research on them never had one. You could try Ebmiller for backing plates he might know somthing hes on the brake board.

Iunno... what did they say when you called them?
could you put these brakes on a drum rear
Not exactly; but it IS possible to mod the flange enough to graunch them on there. Or, as mentioned, ebmiller88 has had some "conversion" backing plates made, although I haven't seen one and don't know what, if anything, you have to do to use them. When you talked to him, I'm sure he was more informative than me about them.

So is this a disc 10-bolt (small 4-bolt flanges) or a drum 10-bolt (big tall flange with one large hole)?

Welcome to TGO. Not directly, if the 84 has drum brakes. You can mod the axle flanges or simply purchase a conversion kit from Ed Miller:

If they're both disc brake rear ends, yes.
