T56 2pc RMS, and clutch options???

I quickly realized while doing a little search, that the options for a top of the line clutch with a Gen 1 SBC (and a 2 pc rear main seal) and an LT1 T56 are quite limited.

I had my heart set on the McLoed dual friction one (i think Street Twin?) but they need their own flywheel, and i dont think they come in a 2 pc RMS format.

What are some options for people running this combo, who are looking for a performance clutch?

Aww that's to bad cause the street twin has been a amazing clutch for me. Only other clutch I would recomend all though I hate SPEC clutches is there Stage 4 i think it's called, comes with no springs on there disks since people had problems with those in the past.

I'm running a Mcleod clutch disc (261171) with an LT4 PP from autozone (NU31265). Also using the Centerforce 2pc flylwheel.

Cheaper clutch idea came from here.

Thanks for the info, that was a good read.

How do you like your setup?? Did you anything fancy like the "dill mod" or spacing out the slave cylinder to releive some preload off the PP?

I've only had the T56 in for a few months now but I love it and the clutch seems pretty good so far. I haven't felt the need to do any of those mods for my setup yet.

Re: T56 2pc RMS, and clutch options???

Good to know. Ive only had my T56 for a few months as well, with a "new" stock clutch system in there. I got it used and the previous owner never installed it for some reason, but it was new, because nothing had any wear marks on it. My clutch does good during normal driving, but i cant get it to chrip the tires during shifts (it should do a chirp in every gear, right up to highway speed) because i was able to do it even with my slipping 700R4.

But the T56 clutch wont co-operate. In any case, someone suggested, the drill mod lets it BITE quicker, and putting a spacer in lets it clamp harder. The slave is always pushing a little on the fork, so a spacer will pull it out some more and release some of the pressure.

But i think i may end up going with the Lt4 and a mcleod setup too. Thanks for ur input.

Do the drill mod but putting a spacer does nothing with the slave, it's a self adjusting system all that does is make your slave rod sick out more with no effect. Plus you run the risk of blowing out your slave if it is out to much.

I am still up in the air about doing the drill mod, because i cant figure out (becuase of conflicting reports) whether or not the LT1 T56 needs it.

Alot of people have said only the LS1s need it......

I also have a sealed GM hydraulics unit, so i dont know how id go about it.

Having done the mod I can say i feel it did help some. To do it for the LT1 you can only get at the fitting on the master since the slave has a 90*. Rest you can get off the internet but it is a pain in the *** to do since you have to take the master out.
