Is this normal???

I have an 89 RS(in sig) (just recently got it running) and when it's at WOT it's shifts are very hard(like jerk you back in the seat)feels like it's gonna break something
Is this normal?
If not, what is the problem and how do i fix it?

Some will do this, often on the 1-2 shift. Is it good for it? Well, the Sun Shell likes to break on even stock type units, giving you 1st and 3rd and no reverse so you decide.

You want to have short duration shifts under heavy throttle to minimize the slip and heat build up. How 'hard' that is depends on many factors, including rear end ratio, stall speed, traction and power, along with the calibration of the transmission. If the tires do spin it must be from power overcoming traction and not from a bang shift. You may have something like a B&M shift improver kit, which functions much like popping the clutch on a standard. Also, using the Vette servo and oversized boost valves can have this affect too.I would recomend installing a TransGo Shift Kit or Reprogramming Kit. The Shift Kit will have to be done professionally. If you do the Repro Kit be conservative on hole sizes. If you do this, I wouldn't automatically instal the Corvette type servo (you may already have it) since it will tend to make the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts 'firmer' and that doesn't seem to be a problem for you.

i had a 84 camaro h.o....every 1-2 shift was extremely hard.i really liked it that way,and actually its better on the clutches that way.some shift kits are made to make the trans shift like that.(i got tickets b/c id be in front of cops, and shifting into 2 would bark the tires)..i took the valve body off,and found the 1-2 accumulator or cushion spring to be broken into 4 pieces.
