I have a 1992 Camaro 305 V8, 4 speed automatic....completely stock. Tansmission pan is leaking and has continued to leak with two previous repairs by a dealer. I am fed up with dealer repairs and want to fix it myself. I want to make sure that it is a 700r4 before I purchase a new pan, gasket, bolts, and filter? RPO code is MX0 for transmission. If anyone has a suggestion on how to make this thing not leak would be great....thanks in advance.

you sure its the pan have you been under it and looked could be a broken cooler line a rear seal a seal around the speed sensor or the speed sensor bolt just loose

No I haven't inspected it yet...I'll do that this weekend a do a followup. I based it off of what the dealership repaired previously; transmission pan, and gasket. I'll check the items that you mentioned...thanks. I don't drive it much, thus a garage queen; but, leaks sitting still primarily. This is what it has done in the past. Do you think I need to put locktite on the bolts and retorque?

My tranny leaks when I don't dive it a while. It comes from the front seal area. I've seen it on my dad's car, where it leaks from the torque converter. From wear the seal actually can wear a ring aroung the shaft of the torque conveter and leak out.

700r4's don't normally leak. the cork pan gaskets tend to leak easy. i'd use a fibre one, not rubber or anything else. install the gasket dry-that means no sealants of any type. if it's the front seal bummer because the only way to fix it is by removing the trans. I've found the electronic speed sensor leaks from the wiring requiring to replace the v.s.s. sensor (not from the outer o ring but from the wiring connector).

I looked at it briefly last night before going to work....It is coming from the front seal/pump area. I can't pull the dust cover until this weekend. Anyway, the dealer has replaced the front pump shaft seal twice, and said the it will need a new front pump if it does leak again. Looks like that is the culprit?? They also replaced the pan gasket twice and the pan once. Man, I hate it leaking sitting still. How difficult is it to do a front pump? Or, should I just take it somewhere to get a second opinion and have it done? Advice would be great.

the transmission comes out to work on the pump-did they remove and install the trans?
most pumps can be fixed v.s. replaced. pull the trans-stand it up-remove the pan-remove the filter-remove the t.c.c. solenoid-remove the aux. v.b. oil tube from the pump-remove the pump bolts and pull the pump(a small prybar can be used between the drum and pump but carefully)-unbolt both pump halves-drive out the converter seal-drive out the pump bushing(the opposite way of the front seal this is important!!!!)-install new pump bushing with loctite(make sure to drive it below flush but not too far out of the pump face as there is a lip that it fits below this is important!!!)-install all else in reverse order---parts required filter,pan gasket,pump o ring,pump gasket,converter seal,pump bushing for face,and new ATF oil.-YOU CAN DO IT GRASSHOPPER.

Honestly, I didn't see the work completed. One of those jobs where you supposedly trust the work that is getting completed and thus get boned......! I appreciate the detailed instructions that you provided to get this thing repaired. She will have to sit for a bit until I can get the tranny removed. I have to do that and a heater core as well; so fun to be had in the future. She is definitly a labor of love; and although frustrating at times I wouldn't get rid of her...thanks again for all the advice and opinion. I'll get it done soon.
