"late" TV cable in "early" case

I had a rebuilt tranny put in awhile ago. Tranny builder didn't like the late style case that I have in my '89 because he thinks the abuse valve is crap. So he convinced me to let him build an early case 700.

Anyways... he used my original TV cable. He said that it's a little longer than the one that goes with the old style case, and he's not available any more.

Well, the tranny doesn't shift hard like I think it ought to, since he rebuilt it with the 'vette pump, servo, etc...

Matter of fact the shifts are pretty much granny. Would it be reasonable to put a cable stop on my TV before the ferrule on the end? Would that possibly increase the line pressure for me enough?

Sorry
you should feel like a jackass right now letting someone take your 89 case and trade it for an older one? Did he ask you to bend over too?
Sorry but he did you wrong, I hate to hear stuff like that, never heard of an abuse valve either.

The newer 700's have an abuse valve for when being shifted from reverse to drive and back, and the way I remember it being described was for cases such as "rocking" the car to get it loose when stuck in snow.

As for him wanting to build you an older case tranny, he must've wanted the newer case for himself! Sorry, but I thought most everybody that knew anything about tranny's knew that the 88-up tranny's have most of the upgrades, and are a better design. Now, there's nothing wrong with the older case design that can't be dealt with, but the newer ones are improved to begin with.

As for the cable length I didn't think there was a difference! Even if the overall length is difference, I think the inner part would be longer by the same amount as the outer, maling it not matter. I may be wrong though, if so, somebody please correct me! I think the only difference may be from carbor TBI vs. TPI. I think the TPI cable is longer, but should still work.

I'm sure somebody will know the answer to your dilema!

The area where the TV cable bolts on the case has never changed. The cable is not the problem here?

There is no such thing as an abuse valve, what is being described here sounds like the auxillary valve body which cushions the initial gear engagemnet, it has nothing to do with trans performance. I've had several 700's apart and have never seen an abuse valve.

There is an abuse valve, it resides in the auxiliary valve body.
Hope This Helps!!!

Well, I guess I wish that I wouldn't have let myself get talked into the older case. *sigh* Nobody has experience with this sort of problem then?

I guess to actually answer your question, you could try adjusting the cable so it gets full pull at wide open throttle. If this can't be adjusted you can cut the end of the cable off and take up some of the slack with cable stop, one of those brass things with a cable hole and a screw.
