Grinding in 2nd.

OK, I have an 86 T/A with an L98 I put in
it T-5 tranny with a B&M ripper the new kind
that is not adjustable, when I put it into
2nd at high rpm 4,000+ it grinds a bit, never
dose it when driving normaly only when i get
on it and only in 2nd gear I think it might
be the clutch is grabing to far down on the pedal travel about half way it seams. Is ther anyway I can adjust where the clutch grabs on the pedal, I need any help I can get.The car also has performer RPM intake,
Holley 750cfm,hooker headers,heads are cast
iron 76cc with 2.02-1.60 valves,K&N air filter,accel coil and cap,taylor spiro pro wires,platinum plugs,Energy Suspension trans
mount,Richmond 4.10's at the rear.Next thing
I will get is a cam and roller rockers.

I just had the same problem with my third gear. When I shifted at low rpms, no prob. But when I shifted at high rpms there was a quick grinding sound. I get the car back tommorow, they put in syncronizer fluid in it ($8 a liter, needed 3 liters, better than a new tranny, but i dont know, a t56 sure is tempting.) Hope this helped!

Sounds like it could be a synchronizer. It cost about $300, to have it fixed. The only way to keep it from happening, if the synchronizer is bad, is to baby it. I have a bad synchronizer for fifth gear in my car. Have to put it in gear very slowly. If you keep on making it grind it will continue to get worse, it will probably take it a little while though. Hope this helps.

Ernie,
Sorry for the late reply, Yeah it helped a little, but i still have to baby third gear. It cost i think $7 a liter and i needed 3 liters... I would go to a transmission shop and ask them>

A transmission shop will tell you one of 2 things: either that they do not work on manuals, or that you need to pay them a wheelbarrow full of $$$ to "rebuild" your transmission. Of course, if you get them do that, when you get it back it will probably still be doing it, and they will tell you that they don't guarantee to fix your complaint, they only guarantee the trans rebuild. It will still be doing it because it's not a trans problem in the first place.

Replace the pilot bushing or bearing. If it's a bushing, put in a bearing instead. You should consider putting a new clutch in it too. Chances are that if you haven't put one in it, it's mostly used up too; the bushing/bearing usually oultasts the clutch.
