T56 vibration

I put a T56 from a 95 trans am with about 90K on it into my camaro and I'm still trying to debug a couple of issues. My largest issue is a vibration in 5th and 6th gear. The car rips through 4th gear and then when shifted into 5th and still hard on the gas the car begins to shake a little and you can hear and feel a difference in the transmission. It feels like something is rubbing inside the transmission. When in 6th and cruising at highway speed the transmission gives off a harmonic vibration which goes away slightly when going faster than 80.

I am thinking the trans is in need of a rebuild, but am not exactly sure what is wrong with it. The syncros are still in good shape. I do get a clunk shifting into second, but not horrible. I was thinking that maybe that some of the gears inside are a little messed up or a bad bearing.

I have some rear diff issues as well, but I ruled that out because 1st through 4th are fine and it only happens in OD. I also have an aluminum driveshaft I am going to try, but it doesn't fit because of the stupid Spohn loop. I think the loop is getting cut off soon and will put the aluminum DS in.

I am kind of stuck right now with this transmission and would like to get all the problems ironed out before prime cruising season gets here.

Re: T56 vibration

Did I already see this on another board?

5/6/R are on an extension shaft on the back of the trans. Any number of things (none good) could go on back there..

Re: T56 vibration

5 and 6 are overdrive gears, and put alot of load on the engine & clutch. Usually when a clutch starts to fail, it will show up in 5th and 6th as the clutch slips and chatters, not being able to hold the TQ between engine and trans..
