Putting car in gear cold
I have a '88 305tbi camaro with 700r4. When the engine is cold, it idles at around 1,500rpm give or take, and i was wondering if it was bad for my transmission to put my car in gear with the engine idling at this rpm. Should i let the engine warm up and the idle to go down, or just put it in gear anyway?

Engine only needs to run for 30 seconds before you should drive away.

Re: Putting car in gear cold
My car is on injected alcohol. There is no high idle on it.
My truck idles high for a short while if it's cold. I put it in gear and drive away every day.
If the rpm is so high that it slams the transmission into gear from neutral then you have something else that needs to be looked at.
