Car: '89 Formula
Engine: 355 TPI
Transmission: T56
Axle/Gears: 3.70 9 bolt.
If that was the case then why would we always be talking about how to swap T-56's into our cars?
Non-WC T-5 = about 250 ft/lbs torque.
WC T-5 = 300 ft lbs.
93 T-56 = 350 or 400 (depends on gearset).
94-97 T-56 = 450 ft lbs.
Tremec 3550/TKO T-5's are rated for somewhere between 400-500 ft lbs.

The 305 tpi with dual cats makes 300 lb*ft of torque stock. Does that mean that if I make any mods, I may end up with a broken tranny?

Car: 85 Iroc
Engine: 385"
Transmission: T-5
I've heard that torque ratings for a transmisson is taken from the maximum torque that can be applied to the transmission over a 24 hour period.
Using a motor spec'd at more torque than the transmisson is rated at doesn't mean that it will break. Their is lots of guys in the 12's with non-world class t-5's.

Car: 92 Camaro RS
Engine: 350 Crate Motor
Transmission: Tremec TKO
Axle/Gears: 10 Bolt 3.73
The T56 is way stronger than the T5.I'm not easy on transmissions, mind you,but my WCT5
had to be rebuilt at about 60k miles, mainly because I used to bang second gear a lot.Eventually,it wouldn't stay in second gear anymore. On top of the standard rebuild parts (bearings, syncros)it needed one shift fork, two gears and another input bearing retainer (the third).
Back then all I had in the car was the stock,170 HP TBI 305.Now that I have a 300HP 350 in the car, I'm planning on replacing it with a Tremec TKO early next year.
I woudn't waste much time or money on a T5,unless you never plan on popping the clutch or banging gears.
Any trans can be destroyed from abuse, just don't expect a T5 to take much before going away.

Yeah, my T-5 was too strongs, so I swapped in a T-56. LOL. Just kidding, the T-5 is a throw away transmission. Run it hard and you may have to throw it away!
