2-piece rear main setup with T56

Hi folks,

i'm looking into 2pc rms setups with the T56 and was wondering if i can get any T56 clutch i like if i have the right flywheel?

also, is anyone using the Fidanza 198661 flywheel? i'm a bit worried because it says
"Performance and SFI-approved flywheels must be used with performance clutch discs only. Use of a stock-style clutch disk with a performance flywheel will often result in insufficient operating clearance between the disc hub and flywheel bolts."
any input on this?

i was wondering if i would have to grind down the flywheel bolts to get enough clearance..

any input, especially from the T56 gurus, is appreciated
Thanks!

are you planning on using a t56 setup from an LT1 f body complete with bellhousing and clutch? if so I believe centerforce makes a flywheel to make it work.

Or if your planning on using the t56 that has an adapter plate to work with your existing bellhousing then it doesnt matter if you have the t56 or the t5, flywheel would be the same

Re: 2-piece rear main setup with T56

I've got a stock clutch with an "F1 Racing" flywheel. Kind of a strange brand name but it was SFI certified so I figured tehy had to be somewhat decent. It was a 1 pc RMS flywheel, though. Im not really sure what that's all about. It seems they're just saying the flywheel surface is closer to the plane of the crankshaft so that the clutch disc will hit the flywheel bolts. But I dont understand why they would do that? And I dont see why performance clutches would have a shallower hub? Mine works fine for now...

Like Hubes said, if you are doing the full LT1 T56 swap, then you will be able to use any LT1 clutch. Centerforce has the correct 2pc conversion flywheel.

Fidanza, Centerforce, and McLeod all make conversion (2pcRMS -> LTx clutch) flywheels.

IMHO, I would stick with a steel flywheel.. My Aluminum McLeod is nice on the track, but the other 99% of the time on the street, it can be a chore in stop&go situation. I've already burned up one set of street-twin discs in less than 5000 miles.
