Shift Cable Bracket and lever
Hi, this is my first post, i have read you guys for weeks and a lot of things i have learned that have helped me with my camaro, well, I´m having troubles with the shif cable, my car is a 87 whit 2.8 mpfi engine and a th700r4 tranny, stock, mi car doesn´t have parking, i put the shifter on the "P" and it doesn´t stay, it still moving until i put the e-brake, also if you push the lever it goes trough R,N,D,D without pushing the lock, it seems like the lock function doesn´t work, well a mechanic see the car and he unplug the selector cable, moved some thing on the cable for a minute and plug it again, the tranny is now working fine, he told me that the trouble is the cable, it doesn´t stay on the properly place and it needs something to stop it, and keep it in the correct place, he propose that with a piece of aluminium he can stop the cable, making a kind of ring on it, and he is gona put it on the part of the cable that seems like a worm (lot of rings togheter), well, i found this piece and i was wondering if it works whit my tranny stock i repeat, or is only for B&M Shifters, I hope you can help me, thanks for reading.

Re: Shift Cable Bracket and lever
This piece is only for a B&M shifter.
You just need to replace the shifter cable - this happens with alot of them. Most auto parts stores have them, as well as the dealer. There's nothing adjustable in the cable, and it stretches over time - it's normal wear & tear, and it just needs replaced.
And stay away from these "mechanics" - especially the ones that want to "rig" junk onto your car as a temporary fix. Always come here and ask first - there's too many knucklehead wrench turners and technicians that can't find their own way home at night ruining too many cars and wallets! Get a Haynes Manual ($20), basic tools, and keep asking questions here - that's the ONLY way to keep your car proper!

Hmmm - Not sure where you got the cable I'd take the cable back and demand a refund, then get another from somewhere else, making sure it was a different brand. Like I said, there's nothing adjustable or fixable with the cable itself. Have you checked where the cable mounts/attaches - making sure there's no bent mounting points or anything broken?
