Re: spool

A spool should only be used for racing. They are dangerous on the street. They put the axles and other parts in a bind when turning corners and they can break the axles, studs and wheels. For very limited street use you might be all right. The Drag Star wheels seem to break the most.

Re: spool

spools run just fine on the street. just have to change your driving habits. for limited street use you'll have no problems. go for it.

Re: spool

A mini spool fits into the standard differential case and replaces the 4 gears that are in there now. It can be used with c clips. A spool replaces the differential completely and must be used with c clip eliminators. A mini spool is designed for dirt track racing and a spool is designed for drag racing. Neither one is for street use.

Re: spool

Im thinking about getting a mini spool for my 89 rs. But i dont understand the spline numbers and stuff. How do i know what one will fit? Also, are they hard to install? How much would it cost to get one installed?

Re: spool

You won't find a mini spool or a spool to fit the 7 5/8" 10 bolt. They make a mini spool that will fit the 7.5" but not the 7 5/8.

Re: spool

7.5 refers to the size of the ring gear. Even if they did make one, youll snap the axles if you drive this car on the street. The 7.5 inch is not very strong and would not stand up to a mini spool or spool for any street use.

Re: spool

Just a standard limited slip will do just fine. You'll have power to both wheels in a straight line and they can slip when you turn.

Re: spool

The Eaton Posi is best for a street/strip car and the Torsen or Truetrac are good for auto cross and street. A spool should never be used in a street car anyway. If you want something easy to install then the Lock Right might be better for you. It pops and jerks sometimes, but it's much easier to live with on the street than a spool.
