700r4 clutch material ?
I am getting ready to rebuild a 700, and I ordered a rebuild kit. It was a "performance" kit with steels, frictions & a seal kit. When it arrived it had Alto red clutches & Kolene steels. It also had the 3-4 power pack with 9 thin red clutches and thin steels. From some research I did, the general conscious is that this setup doesn't work very well in the 3-4 clutch pack. So I ordered a Raybestos Z-Pack for the 3-4. What I'm not very clear about is, will the red clutches be OK in all of the other areas. I know I'll need a few hard parts also, but my concern for now is the clutch setup. BTW the trans will be used in a truck. Mostly daily driver with a very little bit of towing. I'm not new to trans work. I don't do it for a living, but I keep up a few drag cars for some local guys. The red clutches work very well in the Powerglides I build. Any other tips on this trans will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Dean.
