torque arm bushing worth changing?

Hi guys,

I already have the torque arm out of the car so I was thinking of replacing the rubber bushing on the trans with a urethane one. The rubber one I have now still look ok as I think it was replaced in the past (10+ years ago!), and i was actually shocked at how soft the rubber is on it.

If you have replaced yours with a urethane bushing, did you notice any difference in performance? I road race my car and I noticed its possible to upset the rear end and induce wheel hop when braking. This only seems to happen when I'm down shifting and dont rev match well while braking at the same time (a heal toe affair). I'm hoping a urethane bushing would prevent this.

Thanks

Re: torque arm bushing worth changing?

I still have the original torque link bushing on my car and after 26 years I'm about to replace it, hopefully along with a UMI torque arm relocate mount very soon. I have a new poly bushing (not installed) and I can tell you it is rock hard. If you think the ten year old one you have is too soft, then I would replace it since you already some of the bits removed. Why do the work twice?

Re: torque arm bushing worth changing?

I would say yes. Mine looked like crap when I boought my RS and rebuilt the T5 in 2003 (did BOTH at the same time ). I replaced mine with rubber because my funds looked like crap. I recently put a poly one in a buddies car. I cant say whether or not there was an improvement since I dont drive the car but my buddy loves it...
