700r4 noise when shifting to 2nd

Engine revs too high to get into 2nd and as soon as it shifts i lose like 10 mph on the speedo and I can hear this kind of buzzing noise until i press the brakes and put it into any other gear.

It only makes this noise going through the gears, not manually shifting them. I was doing this with the rear wheels off the ground if that matters.

Need to know where I should start looking. I'll try and get a video on here tomorrow to help you guys out because I know describing car noises is kinda lame.

Re: 700r4 noise when shifting to 2nd

Ok found out that my TV cable slipped off of the hook in the transmission. It got driven around the block a couple of times. Can't wait to see what happens.

Cable was aftermarket brand. Ordered a stock GM one. Also my hook isn't at a 90 degree angle it's kind of bent upwards. Gonna try to get it close to 90.

Saturday we'll see if it's fried or not. Oh well at least it was old as hell. That hook thing is kind of pissing me off though. Not fair.

Also how are you guys installing the rubber tv cable seal? I tried just pressing it into the transmission but I can't see anything. Can you slide it on the tv cable itself and then just bolt it down?

Re: 700r4 noise when shifting to 2nd

I'm trying to get the new cable installed on the hook but I can't get the cable housing pressed evenly in the hole because I cannot see anything. Is it easier to install the cable If I drop the pan and do it from the bottom somehow? The way I'm doing it is WAY too frustrating. It's insane, I can barely get my hands between the tunnel and the transmission and I already have the crossmember dropped. I'd like to take out that little hook and get it bent at a perfect "L" shape so it won't fall off again.

Re: 700r4 noise when shifting to 2nd

For future searchers: I finally tried driving it regularly with the wheels on the ground and it seems to work great. Shifts at 3000 rpms. (I guess that's about right). I think with the tires having no resistance in the air allowed the MPH to go a lot higher when idling in drive and trying to get it into 2nd was too fast.
