Clutch chattering 85 z28 with t56

Just this morning clutch went out on me. Went to shift peddle went to floor. No fluid is leaking and it's making a chattering noise no matter what, if I push peddle down, in neutral. Once I stopped clutch would not disengage. I can start car in neutral but makes noise and cannot shift to first. If I put car in first and then try to start the car it wants to take off. This is a t56 application with a centerforce clutch. Could it be the throw out bearing?

could be.
Unbolt the slave and spacer.
See if you can see the rear-most flange of the TO brg. and whether it's bent.

Re: Clutch chattering 85 z28 with t56

ended up being the clutch fork broke in half. One half was hitting the pressure plate causing the chatter. Anyone know where to grab one of these forks, I only see one on ebay.

Ended up finding one on gearbox. Com, cost about 72 bucks. That was the cheapest I found too.

Re: Clutch chattering 85 z28 with t56

Does anyone know if you have to remove the transmission or at least pull it back a little to install a new clutch fork or can you keep trans connected?

I had that happen a number of years ago. Fork from GM was something like $40? Easy enough to just unbolt trans and slide it back a couple inches and slide it onto the pivot bolt. Make sure the pivot bolt is tight before reinstallation.

I wish they were still just $40.

FWIW, I have a fork and TO brg. in the classifieds.
