TH350 Full Manual Valve Body Downshift
Anyone running a full manual TH350? Curious to know when you downshift. I've been told "just don't downshift until you're coming to a stop," but what if I want to hammer the throttle going down the highway? Going into second would help acceleration over third, but I won't be running a kickdown cable to serve that purpose. I've read of catastrophic results from downshifting an auto at too high of rpms, but what about vehicle speed?

Re: TH350 Full Manual Valve Body Downshift
I have a full manual with no engine brake in first....
I don't know for sure but its intent is positive shifts for drag racing. The engine braking is what drags the car down when you downshift so I don't know if you can get a 2nd gear no engine brake option.
When I downshift into 1st I need to rev up past my stall to engage first

You can downshift it if you want kick down as long as your not already running 5k in 3rd gear! Has bad news written all over it! Over revving and stopping on the highway to sweep up engine parts!

I'm just curious if its possible to manually perform the kickdown cables duty and not break anything lol. What is a decent rpm to downshift at?

Re: TH350 Full Manual Valve Body Downshift
That would depend on your engine build and what rpm it can sustain
I have a shift kit in my T700 that gives full manual operation through the gears and full auto function in D.
I can manually down-shift at any revs with engine braking , great for winding roads
BUT having to be aware of what revs the the engine will be pulling in the lower gear
Refer to sweeping up your engine off the road in post above if you get it wrong

What information would you like to know? 350, nothing special on the bottom end, Dart 200cc heads, Siamesed TPI, Comp xe268 grind. 3000 TCI Streetfighter in the tranny, and 3.73s out back with stock Formula rims/tire size. The combination as a whole, I intend on shifting at 6000, and never seeing above that.
