ECM delete question
I just removed my ECM from my 84 Z28. The ppl and tan/black wires for the 700r4 need to go somewhere. Can I just attach the tan/black and the purple one to some form of manual switch without opening the transmission? I think the purple is the brake switch release for the to lockup.

Re: ECM delete question
Or will the 94 LT1 PCM control it?

The 94 LT1 PCM was designed to control a 4L60E(an electronic version of the 700R4). Unless you have deleted the trans control portion of the PCM from its programming, it will not be happy without the electronically controlled transmission. At the very least, you will have a bunch of DTCs set the moment you turn the key on. The 94 also was designed for use with a serial data bus that connected to the EBCM(ABS) and SDIM(airbag). In order to use this PCM in an 84, you will need to program the EEPROM to ignore the SCI bus. I am pretty sure that in 94 the VATS passkey system was also part of the BCM(body control module), so the PCM will not provide fuel injector pulse without input from the BCM, unless this function is also deleted from its programming.
If you have any questions on this, post them on the DYI Prom and or DFI and ECM forums. On most factory 700R4s, the TCC solenoid is grounded to the case so that it can be activated by applying power to pin A of the connector. Just try not to leave the TCC activated when you come to a stop because the engine will stall. Accelerating with the TCC locked will also shorten the life of the clutch.
