10 bolt vs. 12 bolt

That's my dilemma. I have the factory rear end in my RS that I have rebuilt, put a posi unit in and Ls1 rear disc brakes on. Cost me a bundle. But now I have ran across a smoking deal on a Mosier 12 bolt with 3.73 Wavy posi unit and to boot Wilwood disc brakes. It is new and have never been installed.

Do I need it? I know I want it. I am pushing 330 hp through a 700r4 so I don't think I'll brake the 10 bolt. But this deal is once in a life time.

I throw it out to you all for advice.

If its that good of a deal and youw want it, get it. Just be awaire the moser 12bolt rears hasve issues with torque arm bolt retention issues.

take it... you will thank yourself later down the road if you decide to up the power on your car... sell the ten bolt to recover some of the funds you paid for the 12 bolt... seems like a deal I wouldn't pass up if I was you....

Re: 10 bolt vs. 12 bolt

I would say becareful.

I found a similiar moser 12 bolt... Brand New still in the crate with Wav Posi, 3.73s, wilwoods and etc. it was posted on eBay few months back.

item #181065946686, that ended on Jan-24-13 17:39:49 PST - Moser 12 bolt - complete kit including Wavetrac differential and Wilwood brakes

When I messaged him about the auction being cancel'd I got:
I found a buyer. The rear end kit is going for 2,000 USD (local buyer). If you can offer 2,700 USD I will consider selling it to you.
I believe the guy also was pedaling around the same rearend on other sites because I saw it on LS1Tech I believe a year or so prior. At that point I decided the deal was far to good to be true. Surely someone would have snagged it up and flipped it at least.

I messaged him back basically telling I don't do deals outside of eBay for scam reasons and played it off as I wasn't interested in a unbreakable posi in a little 8.8" gear for that price. When really I was, but overall I figured it was a scam.

Here's the forum archive from LS1Tech discussing it. Might want to verify against your potential purchase.

Re: 10 bolt vs. 12 bolt

He got nothing from me. After I dug around and found it on sites I sent him this through eBay:
Sorry more than what I want to give and I don't do deals on items that were canceled out during auctions. I was only looking at 2500 max shipped even then kinda iffy due to only the 8.8" ring gear size even with the unbreakable posi. Maybe if it had been a Dana 60 with the 9.75" ring gear. Good Luck with you local sale.
Just don't send him any money what so ever. From the way LS1Tech is talking he's tried to get money for it, strings people out for in person meetings, and then never gets back to them or backs out. He has a feedback rating of 2 positive for auctions in 2008 and 2010 that he bought. Zero feedback on LS1Tech.

Who knows maybe it will work out for you and that's cool, but I just wasn't going to take the chance since I'm located in the middle of corn/soybean fields it's too far to do most deals.

Just happy I was able to help prevent someone from sending a money order and maybe getting ripped off.

Re: 10 bolt vs. 12 bolt

Make sure you get the receipt. Wavetrac is lifetime transferable, but I was thinking they wanted receipt. The axles are 10 year from purchase date, but you'd probably have issues with the gear and stuff first as 12 bolts are really only rated for 700 HP and lower or so. The last guy I saw on LS1Tech that had issues with Moser 35 spline axles in a 9 Inch was running 30+ lbs of boost into a 430+ CI said he was making around 1400 HP in an outlaw car. He snapped one of them.

Re: 10 bolt vs. 12 bolt

I got it last night. I forgot to get the receipt though. He did forget to get me the parking brakes and mounting plates but will next weekend. The rear end is massive compared to the 10 bolt. I can barely pick it up and it doesn't have the axles or brakes on it yet. Now it this trany give me any other **** I am going to replace it with a 6 speed. I will try to attach pics.
Also do I need to put the drop brackets on for the LCA's I lowered my car about an inch.

Re: 10 bolt vs. 12 bolt

Well I'm glad it worked out for you!

Reallocation brackets help even on stock height cars. Mine had horrible wheel hop with the normal stock springs. On lower cars I would imagine it would be even more noticeable.
