Car: 89 Camaro RS / 02 Silverado Z71
Engine: 1999 LS1
Transmission: 4L60e
Axle/Gears: 3.73 detroit truetrac
S60 Rear
Has anyone got the S60 rear from Third gen ranch. It seems like the best price from all my research. at just over 2300 its better the almost 3k for a 9in or 12 bolt.
Just wondering if anyone bought this rear and how it worked out for them. I need something soon before i break another 10 bolt.

There's a few members who have one but I think it's overkill for the majority of cars it's put in. It's heavy and eats the most amount of power compared to a 9" or 12 bolt.
My car survives very well with a 9" and aftermarket components are cheaper. Weight wise, with an aluminum case, daytona bearing support and spool, I can lift in the center section with one hand.
All 3 options have their positives and negatives. It depends how much you want to spend and exactly what you want under the car. Some people refuse to put a ford diff under their GM. That's up to them.

I dont care to have a ford part under my car if it will make it stronger. I only expect to have around 400 rwhp now and i wouldnt think much more anytime soon. I need to be done dumping money into my car.
I have seen the 9 inch in places like moser, where are people buying theirs at, and what costs are we talking for something like that?

I found a used 9in on craigslist from a 94 camaro. does anyone know how that would fit in my 89?

Technically if it will bolt into a fourth gen, it will bolt into a third gen. The only difference may be in the total width since fourth gen diffs are slightly wider.

The lightest of the three is the 12 bolt I believe and the most efficient given the size of the ring gear. It's a very tough unit. 400rwhp? No problem for this thing.

So the dyno numbers say you'll have less than 10 HP difference between the 3 of them. Dragstrip numbers will differ greatly from what they claim. A lightweight 9" like mine will be quicker than a 12 bolt or D60 even though it eats slightly more HP. The advantage is in the reduced weight the engine has to move down the track.
For street use, the power difference between the diffs won't be noticed at all and heavy diffs add extra unsprung weight to a car. Unsprung weight is worse than sprung weight.
