Got all the old brakets cut off and wire wheeled the housing. This week ill start copying the reat from my car. It will have to be cut down about 4 inches.

Do you have a housing fixture to line up the ends for welding?

yeah, a friend of mine built one for an S-10 and he had them so im barrowing them. I have the cold roll steel to put through the housing also. Just make sure the cold role will spin to show the tubes are strait.

Re: Ford 9 inch build

Tonight i got all me measument of my old ten bolt and got the 9 inch to the same size. was able to leave the right side the alone. it was only 1/8 in longer so i didnt think that was worth cutting down for only an eighth. The Left side on the 9 in was 34.5 from center of pinion. My ten bolt was 31.25 so i shorted that side 3.25 inches to make it the same as my old rear.

Here are the alignment tools. Has a piece of cold roll through the middle to keep it all strait. (Should be able to spin cold roll)

started by tacing 4 sides, let it cool then welded the tube. Alternating sides so it wouldnt pull the tube. While always making sure the cold roll would still spin in the alignment tools

Re: Ford 9 inch build

Thanks, the torque arm mount i ordered from summit. Its the Currie mount. It should be here monday, and as for the brakes i was looking at a kit from jegs. Disc conversion from right stuff. they seem to be a good price. I am most likely going to get axles with bearings and seals from strange and get a summit trac loc center.

Been working out of town so have not had much time but here is what i got done so far since the last post.

The passenger side brackets transfered over to the best of my ability for being where they should be.

Re: Ford 9 inch build

Any one that has done this, what u joint did you use. I think my stock u joint will work? am i right? the yoke on the 9 inch seems to me a 1330. It measures out to 1 1/8 caps and is 3 5/8 wide.

Re: Ford 9 inch build

When I put my Moser 9" or my 12 bolt in the stock rear ujoint bolted up fine. IIRC there was a strap on the back one holding the covers on and I had to remove it. I think at least.

Re: Ford 9 inch build

Pretty sure there's a "conversion" u joint you need for the rear. If you do a search, its in here somewhere....

EDIT: Check out this post...https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...rd-9-inch.html
