Hunting Vs. Non-hunting
Alright folks,
I am in the market for a new ring and pinion for my 9 bolt rear and have noticed that both a 3.70 and 3.73 are available from Motive and Yukon respectively. After doing what homework I can I have found that one is a hunting set up and the other non-hunting. I understand the fundamental difference in that a tooth from the non-hunting ratio will always mate with the same teeth during every revolution, but I cant find any data showing the pros or cons to either setup. The only thing i've found so far is that hunting reduces wear and therefore extends service life. Is there any performance reasoning behind one or the other?
Thanks in advance and I apologize if this is redundant, the search tool didn't turn up much for answers.

I've never paid any attention to this. I don't know that there is any difference as far as performance. I do know that all of the 3.70 gears that I have installed in the 9 bolt made noise.

I've never seen it called that...
Any ratio with a prime number will distribute tooth contact that way. The best combos in this regard are both numbers prime, which 3.73 is (41 & 11) but 3.70 is not (37 & 10). OTOH the teeth are larger in the 3.70 and so may be a bit stronger.
