Hi!

I just wonder how hard it is to get to the oil pump. Reason is to change the valve pressure regulator. Anyone who did this?

to replace the oil pump you need to remove the oil pan from the engine, which requires taking the engine out or at least lifting it up a few inches to get the clearance to slide it out. Actually changing the oil pump is easy, its one bolt. You'll need to install a new oil pickup screen and set it to the proper depth as well.

I believe Fredrik refers to the oil pump of the automatic transmission. The pessure regulator and the boost valves can be accessed from below, without removing the transmission from the car. Just drop the pan. You need some good patience and a pair of nose pliers. Goggles is probably a good idea too. When you reassemble, make sure to install the snap ring in the correct groove. There is a step in the bore that is easily mistaken for a snap ring seat. The correct snap ring groove is slightly deeper into the hole.

Ditto: but just to clear thing up more because it very import that you complete this change correctly or you'll lose pressure and destroy the tranny.

Your press reg will be located on the front of the tranny, on the drivers side. You'll need set of small snap ring pliers and some needle nose pliers.

Remove the snap ring and push up on the assembly. ( it will spring back so be carefull w/ your eyes)

You'll have 7 parts {in order}: snap ring, Boost Valve bushing(large), boost valve (large), Reverse Boost sleeve(small), Rev. boost valve( small) , spring, and the pressure reg.valve ( long rod).

Helpful hint is to use petro jelly to keep the boost vales in the sleeve and bushing. If any thing is unclear just email me.

I took care of this piece, too, on my garage floor. Remember that there's two grooves in that bore, the first one is really just a step in the bore, but it looks like a groove. You want the upper most groove. I found it handy to wedge an old wooden dowel between my garage floor and the bottom of the pressure regulator. This kept the regulator bottomed out in its bore, while I used both hands for that snap ring.

I was going crazy trying to keep the regulator bottomed out in the bore with a screwdriver in one hand, while installing the snap ring with my other hand!

I also hung a garbage bag under the trans. This way, I could slide under the trans, and not get my clothes soaked by dripping trans fluid.
