i've been with my 2.8 like 8 seconds, i don't know exactly what tho... and i definitely don't know with my 3.4. I believe 8-9 is about what our v6s are supposed to do.

Stock is in the 10-11 second department generally. Sticks can generally net low 10's, maybe high 9's...the autos are more like 10.5-11. 3.1's are going to be slightly lower #'s naturally..the 5 hp and 15 ft/lbs help.
My V6 ran a G-Teched 8.28 with a 16.48 @ 85 quarter mile with these modifications: K&N filter with can removed, Catco High Flow cat, Dynomax Super Turbo Catback, new dist. cap and rotor, Taylor 8mm wires and Rapidfire plugs.
It was an auto 3.1 btw.

My carbed 2.8 ran an 11.4 to 60 on my g-tech, but the road wasnt perfect, and the cars state of tune at that point was questionable. But Id say 11 flat on a perfect day with that car. I mean, *** I lost to a near stock civic today. Pulled at the bottom of each gear, but he eventually passed me. Loser probably thinks he toasted a Z28.

If I could get my 2.8l to get a 0-60 in 6.9 seconds or less, I would be very satisfied. Right now my 0-60 is about 8.5 seconds and slower. I don't mind it much though. I like my thirdgen the way I like the old Beetles, the engines are inadequate but you still love the car nonetheless.

LOL, I haven't done it yet myself, but I am planning on it. I can't really say how much it would cost.
If I had to guess I would say around $800 because I know a few people that got thier V6 bored with a port and polish, cam, timing chain, and other neccessary parts for a rebuild for that price.
If someone else has done it, you can tell me different.

init..the can removal helps decently, but the FILTER ARM removal helps a LOT. A custom setup that has smooth bends and angles in it with a good conical on the end will gain quite a bit over stock. That arm is much more terrible than it looks.

To my knowledge, no one makes aftermarket CAI's for our car, but they're insanely simple..most fabricate them out of PVC. Get some rubber connections and some PVC and a conical and make a little arm. Or you can try to rig up some sort of import setup, such as the Autozone or Discount Auto Parts ones...but that might be a tad tricky to get them to sit right or fit in the right area.

Nice paintjob! It almost looks aftermarket except for the EXHAUST sticker slapped in the middle of it!
Sorry man..I'm just giving you a hard time. You did do a damn nice job painting it though...wish my chrome jobs came out like that. Can't get it to stick worth a crap..and if it does, it bubbles or puddles on me.
BTW..your car is damn clean!

Wow...did you just start it then?? The tailpipe smoke sure isn't much for it being that cold out! Once it got down to like 30-40 degrees here, my Camaro poured smoke like a Ford with a bad head gasket and half of its cylinders missing piston rings...

Well mine never puffed blue..but it poured enough grey smoke to fill the entire street when it was cold out. Never puffed ANY smoke of ANY color when warm though! I was very proud of that when I sold it... About the Golf...well, it's your beater...who cares? Run thicker oil, put some Rislone in there, and be done with it.

Quick huh?? All be damned... Friend of mine had a 3 cyl 5 spd Daihatsu Charade..thing was damn jumpy 1st and 2nd gear! Once it started picking up speed though it was slow as all hell. That 5 speed was geared pretty mean down low.

Yeah that car was small as hell. They didnt put power steering on them. Too small....they didnt really need it. It was a trip. Had a great clutch though...really enjoyable to drive...it was nice and feathery, easy to work..not too firm. Great for an amateur like me.

Try driving the clutch on a 4 speed Ford Pinto...that's an experience right there.... That was my first stickshift to successfully operate. My favorites, based on ease of use and the pedals, were that Daihatsu, and this 80-something Mazda B2000 pickup.
I tried an 88 5.0 Mustang with a short-throw shifter and racing clutch once! I had no problem driving it slow, but trying to drive it fast, I couldn't get it into 2nd! I hit neutral and couldnt find the damn 2nd gate it was so solid and notchy! After like 4 seconds of wiggling, shaking, and cursing, I kicked it into 2nd and grannied it up to him as he was laughing his *** off!

I just bought and Edelbrock cam, intake base and 4 barrel top for my 2.8. I haven't installed it, but its supposed to put out like 230 ponies. I've also had it bored .060, Accel 8.8 wires, Bosch Platinum +4 plugs, Edelbrock Performer Series Carb, 3" exhaust (with no cat), and a K&N filter.

hmm i think theres something wrong with my engine. just counting in my head, my 0-60 time was around 11seconds. im not sure if the road i was on was perfectly flat or not tho. i timed it from a complete dead stop. i'll try again with a stopwatch, adrenaline probably caused me to count faster or something.

Tek...you have any modifications? That time sounds on-par with a stock one of our cars in decent tune.

no real mods, just 2.5in exhuast, "high flow cat", and a mieneke flowmaster clone. and regulare tuneup stuff like cap, rotor, spark plugs and wires. planning on scraping my rusted old air canister and making a pvc intake tube with K&N air filter, will that help at all?
