Driveline Problem?

Ok when the engine is cold and when its first started, I throw the car in reverse to pull out of driveway and when I shift into drive the car will shutter, jurk then take off no matter how I press the pedel.

Tranny Fluid is good and looks new, doesn't smell ( I have blown a tranny in my old '88 I know what a burnt one smells like)

The car vibrates at speed, starts at about 60mph in Drive and 75mph in overdirve

Could my rearend be cuasing this. I haven't ever changed rear end fluid, how is this done? Do I need a new Gasket?

I'd really hate to do a tranny service only to blow another tranny, which is what happened on my '88. Changed fluid/filter, two weeks later loose gears when on beltway...

Any thoughts appreciated. I think I explained everything

Also car has weird rotten smell when I run hard, but I have replaced the cat when I first smelt it (needed it for emmissions too) but I still get the smell. Its very anoying and turns girls off

Maybe the u-joints in your driveshaft are bad? I really have no idea, this is just a shot in the dark. Does the tranny seem like it's hesitating engaging 1st, or is the hesitation/jerking in the engine?

It might be hesitating engaging first, I'll try to pay more attention. It feels like its in the drivline though, tranny/driveshaft/rearend

How can the U-Joints go bad? Aren't they a solid peice?

I'm not sure exactly but I'm sure they can break or something... I'm just thinking there's gotta be some kind of drivetrain or engine imbalance for the car to shake at certain engine rpms, NOT at certain speeds. Maybe the driveshaft is damaged or out of balance somehow....or a bad flexplate....I mean there's a whole long list of things I could say that could be screwing you up... I'm just making shots in the dark.

How's the TV cable adjustment on the tranny? Does it shift ok?

Thats something I didn't get a number on, I'll look and see what RPM its starts vibrating at.

It shifts fine, just that "jurk" when I put it in drive after the engine is COLD.

Been at work all day so it should do it when I leave, I pay more attention to give more details.

I got a free alignment yesterday and My friend noticied a slight oil leak and scape in the tranny crossmember, I don't remember running anything over... but maybe somethin is outa wack... I only have had this car for 3 months but I think its been doing it since I got now that I think about it...

It'll naturally shift harder when the engine is cold, because the tranny fluid is also cold, so it's thicker, which raises the fluid pressure inside the transmission, which is also a reason why you might notice the transmission waits longer to shift to the next gear when it's cold than it does when it's warm....

Of course now that I've been watching it more closely, it stopped doing it, however now that I wrote that it stopped it'll probably start doing it again. (Stupid Murphy)

It might have something do with warm weather, its been a little colder here lately now I think about it...
