2.8 Carb'd stalls on hot days

OK...I'm running into a weird issue...I've had it for a while, but I thought it was taken care of last year...

On hot days, after the cars been running for a while, when I leave a stop light it will stall out, and I can't start it again. After that, generally if I let it sit for about an hour or so, it'll start right up...I've noticed fuel is generally at half tank when it does this, and engine temp isn't past maybe 160...

Last year I was told it was the ECM that was doing it, so that was replaced...Anyone else seen this before?

Thanks!

I am sure you probably have already done this...but have you replaced your fuel filter? Also for some reason my Camaro doesn't run right if I use any fuel below 89 octane. Check your timing also. (Remeber to disconnect the plug on the back of the distrubitor if you need to reset it.

Ever try popping the gas cap n see if it hisses??? This sound similar to a gremlin that hits bike when the gas tank cap vent isn't working. When they get to about half way down it dies out. sitting 20 mins or so get it going or a refill. Which both involve giving the tank time to vent.

Vapor lock is another. The gas line near the motor get so hot the fuel vaporises n wont flow right. Does a carb 3rd gen have a regulator n a return line???

Yup, I've replaced the fuel filter, and had it tuned up a while ago (They adjusted the timing during that). As for the gas cap, I've tried that a couple times, and do hear a hiss occasionally. I'm not sure about the regulator and return line...Anyone else know?

Ah, you have my pity. I had an '83 Camaro with the carb'd 2.8 and it stalled every single hot day I drove it, and always picked the busiest spots to do it in. Once I even had to have my girlfriend help me push it (very embarassing at that time). Talk about a crappy problem.

I tried everything on that car. I don't believe there is a regulator with the E2SE carburetor; I've never seen one on a Camaro. I believe that the float and needle do all of the work regulating the flow of gas into the float bowl. I can say that with my car, insulating the fuel line and even re-routing it to a cooler route did not help the problem. Tried a higher flow electric aftermarket fuel pump. That didn't help either. However, I was told that the problem could be in the distributor--either a bad stator, or the ignition control module. Either can be known to malfunction in hot weather, and will kill the ignition system when it happens until the part cools back down enough. I never got to test this theory....a rookie county cop ran into my Camaro with his Crown Vic and totalled my little blue baby. But it was the only thing I hadn't tried by that point. You may want to check yours out.

More fuel pressure will not help vapor lock. You need a fuel regulator with a return line. That way excess fuel return to the tank and fresh cool gas is in the lines all the time. You might be able to get a mechanical fuel pump with it built in. My Buick wagon has a 3 nipple mechanical pump with a built in regulator n return line.
